Anca Alexandra PURCĂREA, PhD CONTRIBUTIONS ON RISK MANAGEMENT IMPLEMENTATION WITHIN POWER COMPANIES The thesis contributes to developing and implementing a risk management model applicable to companies in the energy sector. Based on a strategic trend analysis to promote an integrated challenge - risks approach, the risk management methods applicable in power sector companies have been inventoried and comparatively analyzed and general requirements have been elaborated in order to develop a risk management model for energy companies. Addressed to power sector companies, a risk management model as system with two feedback loops was promoted starting from the systemic approach of the company. The model includes both the organizational risk management and risk management process sequences: establishing the internal and external context, defining risk criteria, risk assessment - risk identification and risk categories, risk analysis, risk evaluation and selection of risk assessment techniques, risk treatment and risk treatment options selection, communication and consultation, risk monitoring and review. Grounded on the analysis of threats that lead to major power system failures, contributions to the development and validation of risk assessment methods applicable to power sector companies were proposed to rank the threats to system security based on multi-criteria analyzing decisional methods- analytical hierarchy process and analytical network process. As a case study, the implementation of the risk management model was selected for Transelectrica, the national transport and system services operator, and proposals for process and organizational framework improvement were set, together with recommendations on selection and application of appropriate risk management tools and techniques.
