Abstract: THE ABSTRACT OF DOCTORAT THESIS: “RESEARCHES FOR IMPROVEMENT OF EFFICIENCY AND EFFICACY OF CONTAINERSHIPS TRANSPORT” In the doctorat thesis, the activity of “hub and spoke”, navigation line is described. For the service of navigation line, containerships are used. The navigation line, via the Atlantic Ocean, is in operation between 2 regions – North Europe and the Mediterranean Sea, where some “hub” ports with specific activities of consolidation / deconsolidation of cargo flows, are located. From these ports, the cargo is shipped to auxiliary ports, by smaller feeder ships. The solutions for an efficacious and efficient servicing of the Mediterranean ports, by containerships, were thoroughly analyzed, using mathematical models and computer programs. By means of solving models and methods, for which the computer programs were elaborated, a containerships operator can decide on the capacity of the ships to be used for servicing of the respective line, the voyages frequency, or the number of ports, so that the operational costs should be minimized and the requests of customers regarding the time of cargo delivery to the final destination, should be respected. At the same time, the computer programs allow, that in the case of variations in time and space of transport requests, the best operational schemes of the containerships are identified, the fulfillment of customers goals in the new conditions will be ensured.
