Abstract The paper refers to the study of wavelets, new objects in Harmonic analysis and Signal analysis. The properties and virtues of Fourier analysis are known, as well as its insufficiencies in describing signal behavior in time and frequency; for example, the weak convergence of utilized improper integrals. Wavelets offer new ways of specifying time/scale properties and decomposition of 1D and 2D signals into voices. In chapter 1 the Hilbert transform is presented and then used in subsequent applications. Chapters 2 and 3 refer to the construction of scaling functions and wavelets, as well as the 2D extension of multiresolutions. In chapter 4 there are given some applications to 1D signal compression, and the study of seismic signals. Some of the original results were published.
