Abstract: The main purpose of the present thesis was the study of chemiluminescent (CL) mixtures with polymer content. In order to achieve the goals pursued, the following objectives were established: 1. synthesis of CL substances; 2. CL mixtures characteristics evaluation; 3. achievement of new CL mixtures with polymer content, with superior performances; 4. achievement of illumination/ signaling system. The impurities existent in CL systems (CLSs) lead to secondary reactions, with negative effects for the light-generation reactions—quenching. Therefore, the high purity necessary for the achievement of CL properties conducted to well-established synthesis and advanced purification strategies. In this thesis, advanced and novel methods for the obtaining of important CL substances are presented. Three CL products were synthesized as highly pure compounds: 3-aminophthalhydrazide (luminol), bis(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl)-oxalate (TCPO) and bis(2,4,5-trichloro-6-carbobutoxiphenyl)-oxalate (TCCBPO). Their synthesis was considered due to the fact that TCPO and luminol existent on the market are not economically profitable in terms of purity necessary for the applications and CL determinations considered and TCCBPO is not commercially available. The light capacity is a determinant parameter for CLSs, which gives the evaluation of use potential for the practical achievement of illumination/signaling systems. Taking into consideration the superior performances aimed, the researches focused on the light capacity determination and its distribution versus time. The illumination versus time variation highlighted the superior performances of CL composites containing: fluorescer, oxalate ester, peroxide, solvent, catalyst, and polymer additives. The components concentrations were optimized and the CL composites’ performances were evaluated after 360 days and returned satisfactory results. Every parameter of the composites was evaluated versus the other parameters in terms of light consistence versus time. The additives used, PEG 200 and PEG 400, significantly improved the light capacity distribution versus time. Further, the light emission generated by the CL composites was evaluated versus scotopic visual sensitivity. The new polymer compositions confirmed superior performances, within extensive emission time. An injection mold for the light stick’s plastic vial and its customization cap were fabricated and detailed morphostructural and morphochemical investigations of produced vials were performed. The manufactured light stick was tested after one year and the light emitted agreed the standard parameters.
