Abstract: Non-linear image representation and pixel-wise processing for enhancing images acquired with digital cameras Abstract The Logarithmic Image Processing (LIP) Models represent an alternative to classical operators used in image processing with. Even though initially devised to deal with multiplicative phenomena, later on, thanks to their robust mathematical properties, they became suitable for various other image processing applications. In this paper, by using simple algebraical tools, we derive the set of suficient conditions to elaborate a non-linear image processing model that complies with the algebraic structure of a cone/vector space. Given this set of conditions, we build new models, which either are simpler to implement or extend the capabilities of known models by means of parametrization. The proposed applications are in the domain of digital still camera and exploit the well-known non-linearity between the real and the acquired rectances of objects in the scene. More precisely, we shall develop a method for amplifying underexposed images, with direct applications in attenuating the motion blur, and an algorithm to enhance the dynamic range of photographed images; the latter application is essential to the process of digitization of analog radiographs.
