Abstract: Contributions concerning the processing and characterization of 7xxx-serie aluminium alloys for aeronautical industry ABSTRACT The Ph.D thesis approaches a great interest subject for light metals industry, with application in aeronautical domain. The investigated alloys from Al-Zn-Mg and Al-Zn-Mg-Cu systems have a great resistance at high temperatures, a great fatigue resistance and very high quality surfaces. Experimental investigations were centered on the studies of density and microporosity (VACTEST method) of samples taken out of different zones of slabs (A…F). A reasonable grade of porosity (0,5%) was obtained for the slabs casted on vertical WAGSTAFF machine. For the purpose of a detailed materials (7050 and 7175 alloys) characterization, the optical microscope (OM) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) were used. In order to determine the composition of intermetallic phases (intergrain and intragrain phases), Energy-Dispersive X-Ray Analysis (EDS) and backscattering measurements were utilized in the investigations. The application of a numeric model for solidification process of 7xxx alloys slabs made possible the predicting of materials behaviour in the cooling process. The MAGMATECH programme was used to visualize the evolution of porosity zones at the solidification of the slabs.
